Where Is Utila?

The island of Utila is one of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras. Utila is actually the smallest of the Honduras' major Bay Islands, after Roatán and Guanaja.  All of the Bay Islands are in a region that marks the south end of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, which is the second largest barrier reef system in the world.

Because Utila provides excellent diving locations it has been known for years as the place to go for diving in Latin America.  Utila is a small island encompassing 45 square kilometers (17 square miles) of land.  The population living on Utila is 4,160.  Utila Town, which surrounds the coastline of the East Harbour, is the major population center for the island.

The location of Utila is 16°06'N 86°56'W.
